The Day the Earth Stood Still

Summary:

The day Edward finds his mate, his world grinds to a halt and starts spinning the other way 'round; this is true even in canon, though there it takes Edward many hundreds of pages to fully acknowledge it.  But what might be different if Edward weren't blinded by his bloodlust and hamstrung by his inability to hear his mate?  Would Edward and Bella still be the intensely romantic figures they are in canon?  What sort of ripple effect would occur from Edward's inevitable changes in behavior?  Would there still be a compelling story to tell?

AU/Canon Pairings.

Beautiful_Distraction’s thoughts:

I guess you could say I am partial to this story, after all, I validate for it.  However, that’s not the only reason that I am making this story my first recommendation, in fact, that’s probably one of the last reasons behind it.  There are so many other reasons why this story is deserving of some recognition!

The Day the Earth Stood Still has completely grabbed me since the first chapter.  I was wrapped in its clutches from the first few thoughts of Edward in the lunch room.  I know what you’re thinking; it’s just another re-telling of Twilight.  You’ve been there; you’ve read that, what’s different in this story?  Just about everything having to do with Edward and Bella’s relationship.

First, the author does a fantastic job of switching some of the major events in Twilight.  Yes, there are similarities, but she differentiates enough that you feel like you’re reading a whole new story for the first time.  It’s not a complete word-by-word re-telling of the same story we’ve all grown to love.  Sareliz does a wonderful job adding in enough description and inner dialogue to make the readers feel like they are a part of the scene, rather than just an innocent bystander.

Second, she portrays Edward in a completely different light, one not so self-centered and focused on what he thinks is best for Bella.  In this story, Edward is compassionate, compromising, and willing to do just about anything to ensure Bella’s happiness, without taking away her say in the matter.  Not to mention, Edward can hear Bella’s thoughts.  This makes for some interesting scenes!

Bella, on the other hand, despite being head over heels for Edward, she’s not afraid to stand her ground.  She’s willing to push him, to make him realize the depths that she’s willing to go for him, if he’s able to return that same level of devotion.

This story not only details the beginnings of a happy, healthy relationship between Edward and Bella, but it also depicts the relationships amongst the entire Cullen family.  Despite most of the focus being on Edward and Bella, the reader gets enough glimpses into the inner workings of the Cullen family and how each member interacts with their newest family member.

Oh, and did I mention the lemons?  I definitely can’t forget about those.  Sareliz’s lemons are beautifully written while still being steamy enough to make anyone breathe a little harder each time.

She’s an author that pushes the limit, pulls her readers in, and makes you completely forget about everything else for those twenty minutes you’re reading her chapter.  The dialogue, the writing, the characterizations, everything comes together beautiful this story and I absolutely love it!
